Let's go Zero! ¹û¶³´«Ã½ is on its way to become a zero waste university by 2030!
Towards Zero Waste | Improve our waste separation
¹û¶³´«Ã½ is working towards a more sustainable campus, and a key goal is to reduce residual waste to just 10 kg per person (students + staff) by 2030. To reach our zero waste goal, we must separate our waste more effectively and make sure all recyclable materials go into the right bin, not the residual waste.
Why does this matter?
Proper waste separation ensures valuable materials are recycled instead of incinerated. That way, we reduce our COâ‚‚ emissions and contribute to a circular economy, together!
Not sure where to throw it?
To help you decide what goes where, we’ve created a waste guide. It tells you exactly what belongs in each bin, and what doesn’t. Please find extra information about specific items below.

Extra information
Cans and PET bottles: you can return your cans and PET bottles in the deposit machine in the restaurant in Atlas or at the Spar: get your deposit back or donate it to a charitable organization!
Glass: bars of student associations (and other places where glass is commonly disposed of) often have their own glass container, there is also a glass container behind Flux or you can return your glass at the BBC (waste management center)
Used pizza boxes: if they are clean (without pizza rests and with minimal grease stains) you can put them in a special pizza boxes container in Auditorium (restaurant), Neuron (restaurant) or MetaForum (central waste disposal units on the first floor); if the pizza box is not sufficiently clean, it belongs in the residual waste (the pizza itself is organic waste)
Batteries, e-cigarettes: empty batteries and e-waste can be disposed of in office hazardous waste bins (available at the reception or ask location management).
Do you have any questions about waste separation (or suggestions how to improve) please contact Wieke Ambrosius (w.ambrosius@tue.nl), Program Manager Sustainability FMC

We are looking for Zero Waste Ambassadors!
To reach a waste free university, all participants’ involvement is needed. We are looking for enthusiastic and driven ambassadors to act as a critical sparring partner for the project team (by thinking with us about concrete actions to reduce the amount of (residual) waste.
What does the role of ambassador entail? Acting as a critical sparring partner for the project team (for example by thinking with us about concrete actions to reduce the amount of (residual) waste), indicating what is feasible and realistic, what works and what does not work in practice, assisting in the execution of analyses (which waste flows are there, what is going well, what is not), converting the insights into the current waste flows into improvement proposals and actions etc.
Who can become an ambassador? Students and employees from all corners of ¹û¶³´«Ã½! Anyone who is enthusiastic and driven in the field of sustainability and waste reduction.
