This year, two researchers from the Department Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences (IE&IS) have been nominated in the category of “Ground Breaking Researcher”: Bob Walrave (ITEM group) and Tugce Martagan (OPAC group). These prestigious awards recognize the brilliant scientists at the university and promote connections among researchers.

Bob Walrave uses systemic thinking and modeling to study complex innovation processes within and between organizations. He examines, for instance, why and how collaborative efforts for smart city innovation fail, focusing on uncertainty, institutional logic and governance complexity. Also, in the field of sustainability, his research, along with one of his PhD candidates, contributes to the development of the “regional energy strategy”.

Tugce Martagan is nominated for her groundbreaking research in the field of stochastic optimization and game theory. She applies this knowledge in the pharmaceutical industry, biomanufacturing, and healthcare. Her work has had a global impact, resulting in significant cost savings and energy efficiency.

The IE&IS department is proud of these two researchers and looks forward to announcing the winner during the ý Research Day. We congratulate Bob and Tugce on their nominations and wish them the best of luck!
