Philippe Bouyer elected Fellow Member of Optica

The Board of Directors of Optica, Advancing Optics and Photonics Worldwide, have elected ¹û¶³´«Ã½ professor and physicist Philippe Bouyer as a Fellow Member. Bouyer receives this honour for his pioneering work on ultra-cold atoms and atomic Bose-Einstein condensates.

Bouyer is a professor at the UvA-Intstitute of Physics as well as at Eindhoven University of Technology, and currently serves as Chair and Director of Research & Technology for the programme. His research focuses on the development of quantum technologies and innovations in quantum sensing.

Optica, Advancing Optics and Photonics Worldwide, is a society dedicated to promoting the generation, application, archiving and dissemination of knowledge in the field of optics and photonics. Fellow membership in Optica is limited and is reserved for members who have served with distinction in the advancement of the field. Bouyer is being honored specifically “For pioneering work on ultra-cold atoms and atomic Bose-Einstein condensates, leading to quantum sensors based on atom interferometry.â€

This year, Optica welcomes 121 members from 27 countries to the Society’s 2025 Fellow Class, joining the over 2,800 members who have joined the ranks of Fellow since 1959.
