Filippo Santoni de Sio appointed professor at Philosophy and Ethics

His research focuses on issues of freedom, responsibility and democracy, especially in relation to emerging technologies such as AI and robotics

The Philosophy and Ethics research group welcomes Dr. Filippo Santoni de Sio as a new professor. Chair Wybo Houkes is pleased with this appointment and the expertise Santoni brings with him, “We are delighted with the appointment of Filippo Santoni. His broad knowledge in ethics and technology will be a valuable addition to our research and teaching.â€

Filippo Santoni de Sio is currently Associate Professor in Ethics of Technology at TU Delft's Ethics/Philosophy of Technology Section. His research focuses on philosophical issues of human freedom, responsibility, and democracy, especially in relation to emerging technologies such as AI and robotics.

Santoni is also excited about his new position: “The Philosophy and Ethics research group at ¹û¶³´«Ã½ has an excellent reputation in the field of ethics and technology. I look forward to working with colleagues and students to contribute to groundbreaking research and education, and a caring work environment. My focus will be on the ethical and political implications of artificial intelligence, topics on which I have just published a book titled Human Freedom in the Age of AI.â€

Santoni de Sio's appointment is effective Sept. 1, 2024.
