RESEARCH PROFILE
Julius Huijts is postdoctoral researcher in the Coherence and Quantum Technology group. He works on the development of a unique source that delivers ultrashort pulses of ultracold electrons, and on its application in ultrafast electron diffraction on crystals of (membrane) proteins. He is supported by a Branco Weiss Fellowship as well as by a Marie Sk艂odowska-Curie Fellowship.
With ultracold electrons we may be able to film membrane proteins on their own, ultrafast timescales!
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Julius Huijts obtained both his bachelor's and master's degree in Applied Physics at the Delft University of Technology, with an internship at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He received his PhD from the Universit茅 Paris-Saclay in 2019 for research performed at the Commissariat 脿 l'Energie Atomique (CEA, France) and the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO, Spain). He then spent 3 years as a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratoire d'Optique Appliqu茅e (LOA, France), affiliated to CNRS and 脡cole Polytechnique, before joining the 果冻传媒 in September 2022.
