RESEARCH PROFILE

Kynthia Chamilothori is a tenured Assistant Professor in the Human-Technology Interaction (HTI) group at the Eindhoven University of Technology (¹û¶³´«Ã½). Her research interests lie in environmental psychology, and particularly in the intersection of lighting, nature, architecture, and psychology, with a particular focus on how the characteristics of light and nature in space can influence the wellbeing of occupants. Her work bridges social sciences and engineering by incorporating new technologies and knowledge from different fields —such as virtual reality and wearable biometric sensors— to provide empirical evidence on the role of lighting and nature in creating spaces that are healthy, comfortable, and delightful for their occupants, in addition to energy-efficient.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Kynthia Chamilothori joined the Human-Technology Interaction group at the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ in 2019. She received her PhD in Architecture from the Laboratory of Integrated Performance in Design (LIPID) at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in 2019, and her Master's degree (Dipl-Ing) in Architectural Engineering from the Technical University of Crete in 2014. She is a member of the editorial board of the journal Lighting Research & Technology (LR&T) and was a Guest Editor for the LR&T Special Issue for early-career researchers in lighting. She is currently leading a reportership for the International Commission of Illumination (CIE) on the use of virtual reality for research on the effects of indoor lighting on humans.
