The mission of Verlicht is to enhance truck driver safety and well-being by developing an automated, dynamic smart lighting solution that reduces fatigue-related accidents and improves alertness on the road.

For the trucking industry, driver fatigue is a major safety and economic concern. Fatal accidents due to fatigue account for 1 in 5 truck crashes, with 1 in 3 drivers reporting having fallen asleep behind the wheel in the past year. This results in an economic impact of €11 billion annually. Existing solutions, such as blackout curtains, wake-up lights, and melatonin pills, are ineffective or disruptive, failing to provide real-time fatigue mitigation. A scalable, automated solution is needed to improve driver alertness without disrupting operations.

Verlicht is developing an automated smart lighting system for truck cabins to combat driver fatigue in real-time. By adjusting brightness and color temperature based on circadian rhythms, it enhances alertness and reduces fatigue-related accidents. Unlike existing solutions, Verlicht’s system is non-disruptive, seamlessly integrated with fleet management, and fully autonomous. Additionally, Verlicht aims to enhance women’s safety in trucking by integrating adaptive lighting with emergency alerts, providing visual signals and fleet-linked distress detection, making trucking safer for all.
