Carp Egbert successfully relocated to new home on ¹û¶³´«Ã½ campus
[VIDEO] New environment has a positive impact on his well-being
Egbert, the beloved koi carp among students and staff at ¹û¶³´«Ã½, has been successfully relocated from the pond near Atlas to his new home: the elongated pond by the student residential towers on campus. Although experts previously confirmed that Egbert was healthy in the Atlas pond, the decision was made to move him. Based on professional advice, it was concluded that a new environment would have a positive impact on his well-being.
The relocation was carefully carried out by expert Marco Zegers from the Advisory Group 'Koi en Vijver', who aimed to minimize stress for Egbert during the transfer. He gently guided Egbert into a corner using a seine net before capturing him, avoiding the use of electric shocks, a method often used in the fish industry.
Egbert was then placed in a container filled with water, where Zegers examined him for parasites and possible signs of illness. He confirmed that Egbert is in good health. The koi was then transported to the other side of campus and released into the larger pond with natural vegetation near the new student residential towers.

Varied diet
This new pond has vegetation along its edges, allowing Egbert to find a more protein-rich and varied diet, including worms, insects, and plants. He also now enjoys more space, and some new ‘friends’ have already been added to his environment: three large common carp, one mirror carp, and dozens of young common carp.
Also important: students and staff at ¹û¶³´«Ã½ can still admire the popular fish on campus, now in his beautiful new surroundings near the student residential towers.
