NWO funding for SFD spin-off Useeble
Useeble, sprouted from the Stimuli-responsive functional materials and devices (SFD) group, has been awarded a Take-off phase 2 study from NWO domain Applied and Engineering Sciences. This funding will be used to develop new temperature responsive inks to track product quality based on temperature history.

Useeble's vision is to revolutionize shelf-life labels. With the aim to ensure that temperature-sensitive products, such as vaccines, are equipped with an inexpensive label that monitors the product's quality in real-time. The integration of such labels will protect lives by warning against the use of expired goods and reducing waste. Useeble produces the smart inks that will be used to make these quality labels. The inks change color to indicate quality loss: green when a product is fresh, orange to signal attention or priority, and red when the quality has expired
Through the support of NWO, Useeble can work on the technology for the first commercial applications of these inks. Over the next two years, the SFD labs will support the growthf this innovation.

About Take-off
The aim of Take-off is to create innovative activity based on the knowledge development and utilisation by researchers at knowledge institutions. This activity can be about product, process, care or service innovation in the broadest sense of the word and within all scientific areas – from exact science and technology or life sciences to the humanities and social/behavioural sciences.
