To complete the mandatory formalities before the start of your contract (or first day in the office), you should arrive in the Netherlands a few days before the start of your contract. The days between arrival and the first day at work are needed to schedule important appointments for you.

Our Staff Immigration Team (SIT) will contact you at short notice. They can assist you with the practical matters mentioned here.

  • Bank Account

To receive your salary, you need a SEPA bank account. If needed, you can open a Dutch bank account as soon as you are registered at a municipality. SIT will inform you about your best options.

  • Insurance

In the Netherlands a health insurance policy is mandatory, and a personal liability insurance is highly recommended. It is also recommended to enter the country with travel insurance to provide coverage until insurance coverage in the Netherlands is in place.

SIT will inform you about arranging your health insurance. The insurance must start on your first day of work or the day you register with the municipality, whichever comes first. It is therefore important to arrange this as soon as possible. ¹û¶³´«Ã½ has arrangements with Zilveren Kruis for group health insurance, with a discount and other benefits for you and your family members. You will receive information about your options via email.

Expat Scheme

The Expat Scheme is a tax benefit for knowledge migrants who come to the Netherlands to take up a specific employment position. If you meet the conditions, your HR Service Officer can help you apply. This attractive scheme is designed to ease the economic burden on newcomers to the country. A part of your salary will be tax-free. This allowance is intended to compensate for the extra costs you may face when moving to a new country for work. For example, you can use this financial allowance for a Dutch language course. HR can advise you on all benefits and implications if you decide to use the Expat Scheme.

Finding your way around campus

Within walking distance of the central train and bus station, you'll find our green campus with beautiful architecture, varied workplaces, and loads of facilities to host our vibrant campus community. Signs give directions to the buildings and the nearest parking lots. There are also parking options for cyclists everywhere, either outside or in special bike basements. If you come by car, you can use your campus card to open the barrier. ¹û¶³´«Ã½ uses paid parking to reduce car use. Also be sure to sign up for one of our introduction days, as you'll get a tour of our beautiful campus.
