Molecular Analysis for Artwork Conservation

Chromamap

Our mission

Our mission is to revolutionize artwork conservation by utilizing advanced, non-invasive methods that offer a deep understanding of an artwork's composition and condition. Through cutting-edge, non-destructive technologies, we aim to empower conservators with the tools to develop more effective and sustainable preservation strategies, based on comprehensive records derived from detailed chemical and topographical maps of artworks.

Our challenge

As artworks age, they face numerous threats from environmental factors, biological degradation, and chemical changes. However, traditional conservation methods often involve invasive processes that risk damaging the artwork. Current technology lacks a comprehensive, non-destructive way to monitor and preserve the chemical and physical integrity of paintings, leaving many invaluable artworks vulnerable to irreversible degradation.

Our solution

We are developing a non-invasive, multi-method analysis system that captures a chemical and physical snapshot of an artwork's condition. By utilizing different types of non-invasive chemical and physical analyses, we aim to provide a detailed and comprehensive description of artworks’ material composition and structure. This data enables effective long-term conservation strategies without compromising the integrity of the artwork, preserving history in its truest form.
