Adsorption in non-L枚wenstein zeolites
APPLIED PHYSICS
Nanoporous materials can aid in fighting global warming by trapping carbon dioxide molecules within their structure. Their adsorption properties vary based on specific compositions, offering more configuration possibilities than there are atoms in the solar system. Using computational methods, we can identify the most effective configurations for optimal carbon capture.
Computational methods expand our ability to explore possibilities and find precise solutions to scientific problems.

Beyond boundaries: enhancing vehicle egomotion estimation through IMU-RADAR tight-coupling
AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY
My research improves automated driving safety by using RADAR and IMU sensors to better estimate vehicle movement, even in challenging conditions like snow. This innovation enhances the reliability of autonomous vehicles, making everyday driving safer and more efficient for everyone on the road.
Extreme conditions test the limits; everyday streets showcase the success.
Development of coaxial cable antennas for ultra-high field MRI: the coax dipole and coax monopole antenna
BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING
Two new antennas were developed for the 7T MRI system at the UMC Utrecht. Unlike traditional designs, these antennas are made of coaxial cables. An existing design was successfully shortened for MRI of the knee. In addition a completely novel coax monopole antenna was developed which greatly facilitates cable routing.
We need to continue pushing boundaries of MRI technology, both in ultra-high and ultra-low field strengths, to gain deeper insights into human anatomy and improve accessibility in developing countries.

Exploring the relationship between urban environment and cardiovascular health
BUILT ENVIRONMENT
We highlighted AI's ability to understand how elements in our daily living environment influence relaxation responses, as seen in heart rate dynamics. This understanding can enhance urban planning to make cities healthier for the heart and assist doctors in developing better rehabilitation strategies and lifestyle guidance for heart failure patients.
In my view, leveraging urban designs to shape lifestyles might help prevent cardiovascular diseases. Could green spaces hold the answer?
Rh-catalyzed cyclopropanations and NH-Insertions using amphiphilic polymeric nanoparticles in complex media
CHEMICAL ENGINEERING
Developing a system that can produce medicines in our body, exactly where needed, can increase the efficacy of cancer therapies while reducing side effects. We use biocompatible nanoparticles that can transform harmless starting materials into potent drugs in living cells, bringing targeted therapies a step closer to the patient.
Mimicking the smallest structures in our body can unlock solutions to the biggest challenges in healthcare.

Kernelization for counting problems on graphs
COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING
Preprocessing is an important part of many applications as it can greatly speed up computations. I worked on designing new preprocessing algorithms for counting problems. This is one of the first results in this area and is an initial step to better understand the complexity of these types of problems.
The fact that a problem is hard to solve should not discourage us from trying to solve it. If anything, it should do the opposite.
Hoe kunnen leerlingen meer leren van O&O dan ze nu doen?
SCIENCE EDUCATION
This is a research on examining project-based education in secondary schools, specifically Research & Design (Onderzoek & Ontwerpen). The research gives recommendations to improve the current O&O course by motivating students. An important part of this is differentiating between the different education levels (havo or vwo) of these students

A scalable digital architecture for convolutional spiking neural networks
ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
With AI entering our daily lives, processing moves into power-hungry data centers. To save energy and enhance privacy, AI processing should move to personal devices. However, to make sure we don鈥檛 drain your battery, we design new chips inspired by the most energy-efficient processor we know: the brain.
The human brain is a lot more energy efficient than modern chips, until we learn how to build chips that function like the brain.
Soft circuits toolkit
INDUSTRIAL DESIGN
The Soft Circuits Toolkit allows all age groups to prototype soft circuits that work on air instead of electricity, to gain hands-on experience with engineering and soft systems. Because these designs are comfortable and safe for humans to interact with, they show great potential in the field of soft robotics.
As a former teacher, I have combined my passion for education and technology into a project that enables children to become fascinated with engineering.

A smarter academic year to reduce work stress among academic staff
INNOVATION MANAGEMENT
Work stress has been a common challenge in many workplaces around the world, and 果冻传媒 is no exception. The long and intense academic calendar has previously been blamed for these issues among academic staff. My thesis investigates work pressure at our university and explores employee preferences for redesigning the academic year.
I am convinced that these improvements can alleviate some frustration, provide more moments of rest throughout the year, and ultimately make work less stressful for both academic staff and students!
Assessing the energy transition in rural Sumba (Indonesia) using the X-curve framework
INNOVATION SCIENCES
This study explores why renewable energy projects on the island of Sumba, Indonesia, have faced challenges despite high potential. It identifies key obstacles and offers solutions to improve future efforts. The insights aim to guide better policies and collaborations, promoting sustainable energy access and development in rural areas globally.
Facing hurdles head-on, we light the way - leveraging insights from transition analysis to empower rural communities with renewable energy.

Digital twin for diagnostics of wafer scanners
SYSTEMS AND CONTROL
Machines fail! Diagnostics are essential for engineering systems. Developing diagnostic algorithms is difficult, because reliable systems rarely fail, resulting in failure-data scarcity. To address that, we developed a Digital Twin that simulates realistic faults, generating synthetic data to supplement real-life failures. This concept can advance diagnostics for any industry.
