Doctoral Candidate

Cassio Bruno Florencio Gomes

RESEARCH PROFILE

Cassio Bruno is a PhD candidate in Mechanics of Materials (MoM) group. He is part of the METRAMAT doctoral network, funded by Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions (MSCA), supervised by Dr Varvara Kouznetsova. His research is focused on design and modelling techniques for metamaterials based on emergent non-linear phenomena. The main goal is to develop innovative 3D Micro-Electric-Mechanical-Systems (MEMS) based on interactions of non-linear local resonators in a periodic metamaterial chain. The method of multiple scales is to be adobted to adress weakly non-linearities in such systems, and finite element simulations in time domain are to be adopted using COMSOL Multiphysics.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Cassio Bruno has a Bachelor's degree in science and technology (2021) and mechanical engineering (2023), both from Federal University of Maranhao (Brazil). He obtained his Master's in materials engineering in 2024, at Federal Institute of Maranhao (Brazil) and his research focused on the investigation of graded metamaterials using Plane Wave Expansion, Wave Fininte Element and Wave Spectral Element methods.
