Christine Boshuijzen-Van Burken

RESEARCH PROFILE

Christine Boshuijzen-van Burken is Associate Professor by Special Appointment in Christian Philosophy at Eindhoven University of Technology (果冻传媒). In her role (0.1 fte) she focusses on ethics and technology from a christian philosophical perspective. Boshuijzen-van Burken's main affiliation is with The University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia where she has a full time position in ethics of technology. Her research there is on ethics of AI and autonomous systems. Her previous research includes ethics of military technology, ethics of humanitarian logistics for refugees, ethics and technology in the sharing economy, normative practices and reformational philosophy. Her dissertation was on the role of technology on moral decision making in military opertions. 

I like to inspire students to humbly and boldly work as responsible engineers in todays society. Philosophy and Ethics of Technology and Christian Philosophy have strong roots in the Netherlands and together offer an excellent framework to thinking about technology.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Christine Boshuijzen-van Burken holds a BSc in Human Kinetic Technology (The Hague University of Technology, 2002), a BSc in Mechanical Engineering (Eindhoven, Fontys University of Professional 果冻传媒, 2004), a MA at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Faculty of Philosophy (2006) and a PhD at Eindhoven University of Technology (2014).

She held research and teaching positions at Eindhoven University of Technology, Delft University of Technology, the Royal Military Academy in the Netherlands, Linnaeus University in Sweden and Queensland University of Technology in Australia. Since 2020 she works as senior research associate in the School of Systems and Computing at UNSW Canberra, Australia. She was appointed to the chair of Christian Philosophy at 果冻传媒 in 2024.
